Do you have a “nose”?

A new neuroscientific study concluded recently that having a “nose”, it is not a human inherited characteristic, but it comes in time by training.

These kind of people are just a few worldwide. “Noses”, or perfume designers have developed such a competence that is known to the great nutshells majority in such a manner that always sleeps through their fingers. In fact, their smell memory allows them to feel that odor that they wish. Their brain does not need exterior stimulus to represent that smell that they wish. Therefore, they are virtually capable to mix and assemble different smells to create the best possible flavor.

That doesn’t mean that any other person use his/her nose exclusively for common situations. Odor information is stored in long-term memory and has strong connections to emotional memory. This is possibly due to the olfactory system’s close anatomical ties to the limbic system and hippocampus, areas of the brain that have long been known to be involved in emotion and place memory, respectively. So, you are special, too. :)

However …
To find out whether this sense of smell feature is innate or trained, the researchers led an experiment on several noses and several students in a perfume shop. They used functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (FMRI) to discover which brain areas are sought during the experiment. They discovered that the brain part that responds to the stimulus is the same with that that was used during the perception of the smell’s imagination. The similarities between those two situations varied with the subjects and with their degree of training and expertise.

So, train your nose for the rose in your prose.
And, don’t forget to comment bellow after sniffing some interesting ideas.

And now … A runny nose, a funny nose … Enjoy
